From Karlsruhe to San Francisco …

…was the route travelled by nine original works by OUBEY for their first public presentation in the Art Lounge of the Goethe Institute in San Francisco at the “VISIONS: Through Art to Science” exhibition – where they were paired with the Encounter Videos which now accompany each of the paintings.

And “From Karlsruhe to San Francisco” was also the heading given by FOCUS online to its feature story covering the event:

Joe Betts-Lacroix, Peter Erlenwein, Nina McCurdy and Seth Shostak were the four outstanding scientists from a range of scientific disciplines whose fascinating talks ranging on the borderlines of science, science fiction and art made the symposium an event long to be remembered.

DAS LEBEN WÄHRT KURZ, DIE KUNST WÄHRT LANG

OUBEYs Leben endete vor 15 Jahren, am 2. August 2004, abrupt und brutal. Er saß ahnungslos in seinem Smart, der auf dem Seitenstreifen stand, als sich ein 40-Tonner von hinten näherte und ungebremst mit 90 km/h in ihn hineinfuhr. Dieser Aufprall endete für OUBEY tödlich. 

Der Mensch, mit dem ich bis dahin 21 aufregende und wundervolle Jahre verbracht, mit dem ich so viele Gedanken und Gefühle geteilt, mit dem ich eng verbunden und im Gleichklang gelebt hatte, war von einem Moment auf den anderen nicht mehr da. Und sein Wunsch, nach einem zwölfjährigen Rückzug aus der Öffentlichkeit seine Bilder wieder zu zeigen, schien unerfüllt zu bleiben.

MINDKISS - A Joint Endeavour

Over the past ten years since it's been active in the public eye, the MINDKISS Project has constantly sought out untrodden paths and unexplored territory in its efforts to bring OUBEYs art to the attention of people everywhere in the world. And now in the tenth year of the project – which is actually its fifteenth - all the signs point to its embarking on a highly promising next stage.

Why does someone want to be an artist? What drives him or her to look inside themselves and want to or indeed have to create something called art? And how do they cope with such a form of life, because that’s what it is, a separate form of life? What distinguishes artists – apart from their special gifts – from all the other people who might love art but live in a completely different world to those who actually create it?
