One day when I asked OUBEY just what “27 Cube Memory System” – the title of the only triptych he ever painted – actually meant, he gave me a very special kind of look and shot back, “You’d better ask Fritz Haller about that”. And that was the end of that until 2005, one year after OUBEYs untimely death, when I drove to Bern with the original triptych packed in the boot of my car to see Fritz Haller and ask him this question.

In 2005 Dagmar Woyde-Koehler set up the OUBEY MINDKISS Project – on her own and against all the rules of the art business. In 2010 she first put OUBEYs art in the public spotlight – treading unconventional ways and supported by outstanding partners. In 2015 a global Community is now celebrating the 5th anniversary and all that’s been achieved so far – in eager anticipation of what’s to come.

On 5 May 2015 the OUBEY MINDKISS Project will be celebrating its fifth birthday with a happening held at the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe –the very same place it first saw light of day on 23 March 2010.

There are many reasons why OUBEY loved George Lucas’s six-chapter film epic Star Wars so much and why it is one of the most fantastic and amazing works in the history of movie-making.

Exceptional thought can’t be measured by the benchmarks of fame, power or money. It’s driven from the inside and sweeps aside everything prescriptive that stands in the way.

Are we alone? – was the name of a radio program which built up a legendary reputation among its band of devoted followers over the years. The show’s still on the air but now called Big Picture Science and is broadcast and podcast on the internet every Thursday, hosted by Dr. Seth Shostak, senior astronomer and director of the SETI Institute, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence in Mountain View, California.

There is the microscope, there is the telescope and now there is the Oubeyscope” someone recently wrote me who’d delved a little deeper in his thoughtful exploration of OUBEYs works and coined this new term in a flash of serendipity.

What we’ve learned so far about the way life was created might lead us to think that – whether by chance or design – this shows the workings of a perfect system because everything that’s been created since the beginning of the universe, and in particular the creation of a solar system with that planet called Earth which we inhabit, seems to point to a state of undeniable and sublime perfection.

Probably only a minority of people would agree with such a statement; most people would have the diametrically opposed view that life is actually far too short.

In terms of our individual lifespans, we humans are mortal. As World-time beings we are part of an immortal integrated Total Subject.

Why would an artist with so much to offer turn his back on the allure of the art world after his highly successful first exhibition and retire to the seclusion of his studio for a long indefinite period? This is a question I am very often asked.
