On the evening of 11 August 2004 I had a phone call. It was from someone who had heard of OUBEYs death in a car crash the week before and who was ringing me to express his sorrow.

Can you imagine a special edition of we_magazine dedicated to WE and the Arts? One in which OUBEY’s art and thinking about art formed something like a linking element between the articles and contributions of a wide range of authors all dealing with art, the Internet and WE from their own perspectives?

For whatever reason, we human beings do not have a very difficult time conceiving of an earthly being that is so vastly superior to us physically that it could snatch up our tiny selves and swallow us whole in a heartbeat were we to encounter it unprotected anywhere in its element.
